Is long-time Celtic fan John Terry actually a secret Rangers supporter? According to Alan Hutton, he may very well be.

Hutton has been in the news recently for his incredible goal in the 4-2 win against local rivals Birmingham City for Aston Villa. It was a heroic moment for the Scottish international in yesterday’s huge derby clash.

Terry was a new addition to the backroom team this season after hanging up his boots. A glittering career with Chelsea saw him end his days with Villa. This was at the same time Hutton was still a mainstay in the side.

The pair have gotten to know each other well over the last couple of years, and Hutton believes his coach is a secret Rangers fan. That’s despite the fact the former Chelsea legend has spoken of his love for Old Firm rivals Celtic in the past. Speaking on TalkSPORT earlier today, he had this to say.

“Do you know what, I’m not too sure (that he’s a Celtic fan).

“He sits on the fence with a lot of things and I think he’s having a little bit of banter with me. He’s wore blue all his life, that’s what I keep telling him.

“So, how can you decide to just turn on the green. So I’m not too sure. We’re back and forth but I think he’s a true blue, in my opinion.”

Tongue in cheek

It all comes across as very tongue in cheek from Hutton. It appears that Terry still comes across as a casual Celtic fan regardless of the colour of his clothing, but it does make you wonder.

Terry famously featured in a charity match at Celtic Park for Stiliyan Petrov back in 2013. He was also set to play in another charity game earlier this year at the same ground, only to withdraw late on.

There’s no denying Hutton’s allegiances however. The Villa right-back came through the Rangers Youth Academy and made his first-team debut back in December 2002. The defender then went on to have a glorious six years at Ibrox, but only managed to win two league titles.

Since then, he’s went on to have an extremely profitable career at clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland, and now Villa to name a few.

It’s always nice to see him doing well, and after netting in the Second City derby, he’s now on cloud nine.
