There was a time this season when even the mere thought of dropping Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor would’ve jerked you forward, forcing you to snap out of a sacrilegious daydream.
McGregor, to put it mildly, was sensational in the first quarter of the year.
But since the last international break, something has gone wrong between the sticks at Ibrox.

McGregor has flapped when the ball’s been played into his feet, he’s cut an irritable and frustrated figure in the goal, and he’s not quite had the same impact we rely on him to.
Last night against Kilmarnock, the keeper was beaten at his near post. From the moment future Ranger Jordan Jones drove at Gareth McAuley, you could see McGregor was taking up an awful position.
Driven low and hard, McGregor struggled to get down. He was miles off it in truth. Jones made both players look like has-beens.
The Kilmarnock game just part of concerning form
His distribution has left a lot to be desired in recent months too. McGregor has been slicing kick-outs all over the pitch recently. He also gifted the ball to Rapid Vienna for the goal that eventually sent us crashing out of Europe.
But we wouldn’t have been there without him. It was in Europe that McGregor had us in awe, the 36-year-old Bosman signing from Hull rolling back the years.
He had some pretty special moments during that Europa League run. The matches against Maribor and Villarreal being some of the standouts.

But with another talented Rangers goalkeeper on the bench in Wes Foderingham, is it time to give the Scotland number one a rest?
McGregor has been riding high on the European run all season and he’s not beyond criticism.
We still love Greegsy, but when called upon in the last little period for Rangers he’s somewhat been found wanting.
Speaking of goalkeepers, Rangers took an international stopper on trial at the club, and have also been linked with a former Liverpool youth keeper Gerrard has worked with.
