Sir Kenny Dalglish is a Scottish football icon. It takes a lot to impress a legend of this calibre, but Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor however has done exactly that.
The 36-year-old has come back to Rangers and blew everyone away with his fantastic performances and game winning saves. McGregor has even won back the Scotland number one jersey, as his career undergoes a late renaissance.
McGregor was again in top form against Livingston on Saturday. He followed up his brilliant Scotland displays with his 12th clean sheet for club and country this term.
Speaking in his exclusive Sunday Post column about the veteran stopper, Dalglish praised the Rangers number one for his brilliant season so far, and his terrific Scotland displays.
“The contribution of Allan McGregor in goal was also significant,” Dalglish told the Sunday Post.
“He made yet another top-drawer save against Israel at a crucial time. He just keeps improving week after week, never mind season after season.”
McGregor is invaluable to Rangers
Since returning home to his boyhood club in the summer, McGregor has been nothing short of incredible. He has replaced Wes Foderingham as number one, and has been a consistent player in Steven Gerrard’s new look Rangers side.
He is deservedly Scotland’s number one now. His performances have been better than the ones of Craig Gordon, who hasn’t done much wrong. The fact that Gordon has been decent for Celtic this season shows how well McGregor is playing. He hasn’t took the jersey from someone who is out of form. He has won his place by playing well.
Dalglish makes a valid point. McGregor is a reliable player for both club and country. With every game he seems to get better, which is a terrifying prospect for attackers that face Rangers and Scotland.
McGregor is in fine form, and will be key to any Rangers success this season. He may have arrived for nothing, but the Scotland number one is now worth his weight in gold at Ibrox.
