Borna Barišić has been recalled to the Croatian national team after narrowly missing out on their World Cup squad.
The combative left back will be part of Croatia’s upcoming friendly with Portugal and their UEFA Nation’s League match with Spain.

Starting spot up for grabs
He joins Antonio Milić as the only left backs in the squad and he will be hoping to pip the Anderlecht full back for the starting berth.
Regular starter Ivan Strinić has been forced into taking a break from football after being diagnosed with a heart problem. Strinić was the first choice at left back and only just signed for AC Milan in July.
It’s a massive disappointment for the 49 times capped defender but a huge chance for Barišić.
International pedigree huge for Rangers
Having players of Borna Barišić’s quality at Rangers can only be a positive thing.
Training and working with world-class players such as Luka Modric of Real Madrid and Ivan Rakitic of Barcelona is an invaluable learning experience. The same also goes for playing opposition of an international standard.
Everyone at Rangers will be hoping Barišić can cement himself as the main man on that Croatian left-hand side. With Nikola Katic on superb form, there is hope he can also break back into the squad. Katic has made a solitary cap for the country.
Despite scoring an OG in yesterday’s match with Kilmarnock, Barišić looks a real composed presence on the left hand side.
The full back has already made three caps for Croatia and made the preliminary squad for the World Cup. However he missed out on the final 23 who of course made it to the final in Moscow.
