If Odsonne Edouard is worth £30m, what about Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos?

Reports are claiming that the likes of Napoli and Borussia Dortmund are tailing Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard to the tune of £30m.

For many, the French U21 international is a top-class player who’s worth the kind of fees the press is reporting on.

For others, it’s simply yet another case of Celtic bumming up their stars in an attempt to get top dollar for them.

But from a Rangers perspective, if Odsonne Edouard is worth £30m, then how much does that make red-hot Colombian goal machine Alfredo Morelos worth to Rangers?

After all, the Colombian’s stats make much better reading that the undoubtedly talented former PSG forward.

Morelos has eleven goals and three assists in 13 games this season. That means he manages more than one goal contribution a game.

In comparison Edouard – in a seemingly “better side” – has six goals and five assists in twelve.

Stats of course aren’t everything, and there’s little doubting that the Frenchman is a capable forward with real ability.

Morelos too is a top player who former Gers forward Michael Mols has even touted to go on to be “world-class” [Herald].

They’re also a different style of player – Edouard likes to drop deep, run at goal and cut in from the left whereas Alfredo Morelos is a physical, combative forward who’s powerful in and around the box.

Whether Edouard is worth the £30m or not isn’t the point I’m trying to make here. What I’m suggesting is that if the Frenchman is worth so much to Celtic, then our little Colombian must be approaching the same.

Should Rangers be valuing their leading man as much as Celtic do Edouard? (Photo credit should read ANDY BUCHANAN/AFP/Getty Images)

Even if he is yet to break his goalscoring duck against Celtic – there can be no denying the important goals Morelos continues to score in the blue of Rangers.

Is the £20m valuation hinted at by Stewart Robertson last season enough if players of similar influence could go for more?
