After Rangers crashed out of the Scottish Cup at the hands of St Johnstone, it might not just be the dream of a double which Callum Davidson could snatch out of Steven Gerrard’s grasp.

Saints boss Davidson is clearly the only real opposition to the biggest managerial prize in the country as the debate ramps up over who should be Manager of the Year.

On a shoestring budget, the former Scotland international has built a resolute side with a great team spirit who’ve already won the League Cup this season.

Not only that, but Davidson has helped Saints to a top-six Scottish Premiership finish and following the penalty shootout victory over Rangers, the Perthshire club have their eye on a double.

Should Davidson manage to win the Scottish Cup then there will be plenty clamouring for the McDiarmid Park manager to be crowned Manager of the Year.

And not without good reason.

But if Steven Gerrard – the man who delivered Rangers’ first title in a decade, secured 55 and halted Celtic’s seemingly unstoppable charge to 10IAR – manages to go the Scottish Premiership season unbeaten, it’ll add something extra to his own submission.

For Rangers supporters, there is only ever going to be one winner, and the scale of what Gerrard has achieved this season hasn’t quite been realised just yet. It will be come the 15th of May.

As for Davidson, St Johnstone’s League Cup victory was their first trophy for eight years and only the second in their history. Their first was the Scottish Cup in 2013/14.

If he can treble their trophy haul in one season it’d be a remarkable achievement and one which many believe could snatch the Manger of the Year gong from the Rangers boss’ grasp.

Meanwhile, a bluenose family member of the St Johnstone hero on the night has threatened to disown the player such was the pain of the Scottish Cup exit.
