Former Rangers defender Russell Martin has delivered some high praise for a current Gers star, as quoted by the Daily Record.
33-year-old Martin endured an unsuccessful six-month stint at Ibrox last season. Since then, he’s been released by Norwich City and briefly played out for Walsall, before helping MK Dons to promotion.

He was at Rangers long enough to get a feel for the SPL though, and he thinks there’s no better player around than James Tavernier.
“I believe Rangers have the best player in Scotland in the shape of James,” said Martin, as quoted by the Daily Record. What he does in terms of a right-back is incredible. He drives the team forward by what he does, scoring goals and leading by example.”
“He’s not an old-school captain in terms of ranting and raving but there are guys who lead by character and others who lead by example. Tav steps up during times of adversity and has got better season after season.”

Verdict
It’s interesting to see a former teammate come out and offer such praise towards Tav.
He had a huge influence on Rangers’ season, playing in all but three of the club’s fixtures across all competitions.
He showed considerable improvement in his defending and enjoyed his best ever season in terms of both goals and assists. For that reason, he fared extremely well in his End of Season Report.
