The Daily Record reports that the Scottish Cup final could be played at Ibrox next month, but only if Rangers are soon knocked out of the competition.
The showpiece event is scheduled to take place on 22nd May and because Scotland is set to move to Level 2 of Covid restrictions on 17th May, a limited number of fans should be permitted to attend.
However, if the final takes place at Hampden, as is the current plan, it will have to be played behind closed doors.
That’s because the SFA technically has to hand the national stadium over to UEFA on 14th May, so preparations can begin for Euro 2020.
Yet, the Record reports that a late SFA rethink is possible, with Ibrox and Celtic Park potential alternative venues.
It’s asserted that the fourth round Old Firm clash may allow a decision to be made earlier than would otherwise have been possible, as one of either Rangers or Celtic will soon be out of the competition.
With the final required to be held at a neutral venue, Ibrox couldn’t host if there was a chance of Rangers making it to that stage, while the same goes for Parkhead and Celtic.
This could provide extra motivation for Steven Gerrard’s men on Sunday, as if they don’t record a third derby win of the season, it’s possible that another team will win the Scottish Cup on their turf.
