A move to Rangers appears unlikely for Olimpiu Morutan with the Romania international’s agent insisting that the Serie B star ‘will most likely remain in Italy’.
Earlier this month, Turkish publication Sabah indicated that the Galatasaray-owned Pisa SC loanee could be available for £5 million during the summer transfer window, those reports seemingly handing Rangers a fresh stab at a player who saw a potential move to Ibrox blocked a year previously.
Pisa have not graced the Serie A stage since 1991. Morutan’s form at the Arena Garibaldi has been so impressive, however, that promotion is not yet out of the question for a side sitting in fourth place; their quicksilver forward scoring six times and setting up seven more to spark a play-off push.

Morutan has reportedly caught the eye of an ambitious Salernitana outfit along the way. But, while the 23-year-old’s agent is playing down talk of a potential switch to Salerna, Iaon Becali believes that his client will be plying his trade somewhere on Italian soil in 2023/24.
Rangers like Galatasaray forward Olimpiu Morutan
“Morutan to Salernitana? It’s talk,” Becali tells La Nazione. “The transfer market will be discussed at the end of the season.
“But I can confirm that there are many interested clubs, and that he will most likely remain in Italy. The picture will be clearer once we understand whether Pisa will keep him or not.”
Morutan, who has been labelled a ‘phenomenon’ by Serie A legend Andrea Pirlo, appears to be realising the potential that had the president of his former employers FCSB drawing comparisons with a certain World Cup-winning captain.
“He’s an extremely talented footballer. He looks a lot like (Lionel) Messi,” said Gigi Becali, the long-serving chief of a club formerly known as FC Steaua Bucharest. “He is very technical and fast.”
Rangers boss Mick Beale, The Athletic say, is prioritising a left-footed forward this summer. Morutan, who loves to cut in from the right in a style not too dissimilar to the Barcelona legend, would tick plenty of boxes.
