Steven Gerrard came out yesterday and said that every player has his price. He even went as far as to say they’re all for sale. But with the threat of real interest in our Captain, how much is James Tavernier worth to Rangers?
Gerrard said: “Every player has their price but if the price is not right then he does not go anywhere. He stays as my captain
“All my players are for sale. Let’s get it out in the open. Every single one of my players is for sale. They have all got a price.”
Tavernier pivotal to Rangers
The progress James Tavernier has made this season has been unbelievable. Every game he seems to play a massive role in our forward play and can boast six goals and eight assists already this season. He is the best crosser in the league, and the best in his position.
At the back, Tavernier is much more present that ever. His concentration and positioning have been a regular source of criticism. This season, alongside the reliable and vocal Connor Goldson, he’s came on leaps and bounds. He not only offers an attacking threat, but he is much more mature and capable in defence.
He’s dynamic, talented and clearly popular amongst the team. He sets an outstanding example and is a worthy captain. Gerrard should be commended for giving him the captaincy.
It’s clear he is invaluable on the pitch, but how much is James Tavernier worth off it?
English, flying and still only 26
English players, particularly of Premier League standard, go for crazy money. Especially when compared to other countries.
English teams have a quota of homegrown players they must have in their team, and having developed at Newcastle’s Academy, Tavernier is one. This adds to his value.
At 26, he also still has lots to offer. Obviously, no one at Ibrox wants to see Tav go. But if he is to, it has to be for a very pretty penny.
Can we put a price on it? There were murmurs of seven or eight million at the end the last window. I think Rangers will be looking for 12, 13 million now. Maybe even more.
James Tavernier is worth that much to the team and club.
