Highly-rated Rangers loanee Kai Kennedy was benched for Raith Rovers as they ran out 1-0 winners over Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship.
Jamie Gullan’s strike eight minutes from time ended a four-game winless run for the promotion hopefuls as things heat up in the race for a playoff place in the Scottish second tier.
Prior to the Morton clash, 18-year-old winger Kennedy had started 11 straight Scottish Championship matches for John McGlynn’s side.
The result lifts the Stark’s Park side up to 2nd as they hope to achieve promotion to the top tier of Scottish football via the playoffs.
Kennedy is still young and has played an influential role with the Rovers in the second half of the season, netting once and laying on four assists for the Championship side.
The winger was loaned to Raith in January after signing a new two-year deal at Ibrox following protracted negotiations over his future.
Links to the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City [Daily Record] had appeared to turn the youth talent’s head before he was sent on loan to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the first part of the season.
But the situation was resolved eventually and Kennedy moved across the Scottish Championship with Raith in order to be closer to home.
