High-profile Celtic fan gives his take on settling Rangers title battle

Outspoken pundit, former Parkhead youth player and high-profile Celtic fan Alan Brazil believes any title battle with Rangers must be completed before trophies are handed out.

The views of the talkSPORT host are not ordinarily considered to align with those of Rangers fans but on the big league title issue dominating the country’s game, they appear to agree.

Writing in the Sunday Post, Brazil believes the league campaign should pick up where it left off when it’s safe to do so and dismissed suggestions players could be overworked as a result.

“We should complete this season when it is safe to do so and then worry about the future,” said Brazil [Sunday Post, via Daily Record]

“I think it’s the way the majority of fans would want things to happen.

“Players’ welfare is important but I will not accept whinging about a hectic schedule from people earning £150,000 a week.

“Yes, there will be pressure on players and managers. But it’s a type of pressure they should relish.

“Real pressure is on the people wondering if they can pay the rent or worrying about loved ones who are unwell.

“There are a number of coaches and managers who feel that having a winter break is vitally important for players. They might be right that it’s important but they’ll just have to find a way to cope.

“In times of crisis it’s important that people have something to cheer them up.

“There are no easy answers to the problems caused by this pandemic but the football community should realise how many of them lead a pampered existence.”

The debate about what should happen with regards the league title is an incredibly polarising one in Scottish football.

Rangers are clear that they will resist any suggestion Celtic could be awarded the title early, whilst our Old Firm rivals are adamant the season can’t be declared null and void.

It is not clear exactly what is going to happen should the Scottish game fail to be completed before UEFA’s June 30th deadline.

But what is apparent is that no matter what happens from here, for Rangers fans it’s a damn sight better than watching our rivals gallop to another treble.
