Hibs manager Nick Montgomery has bemoaned “bad decisions” from the refereeing team in their Scottish Cup defeat to Rangers.

The 42-year-old Englishman singled out two decisions in particular which he felt changed the course of the match at Easter Road.

The Gers ran out 2-0 victors in the game with goals from John Lundstram and Fabio Silva enough to book a date at Hampden.

But the match did contain a series of major refereeing incidents – which drew the ire of Michael Stewart – including a penalty award and two red cards.

Nick Montgomery bemoans Rangers penalty call

Nick Montgomery has expressed his frustrations that Rangers were awarded a penalty despite what he views as a foul on Martin Boyle in the build-up.

The frustrated Hibs manager has criticised a lack of “consistency” and referred to a similar incident against Celtic a few weeks ago.

“I thought some bad decisions there,” said Montgomery. “I’ll have to look over them again but watching it live I don’t know how it’s not a foul on Martin Boyle leading to their penalty.

“Really surprised at that one and frustrated. We had an incident like that against Celtic and Martin Boyle got a booking for it, today we got a penalty given against us.

“I’m not saying it’s not a penalty, I’m saying that the consistency on decisions is the frustrating thing.”

Hibs boss laments Scottish Cup red card

The Hibs manager has also been speaking about the red card incident involving Hibs midfielder Nathan Moriah-Welsh.

The Bournemouth loanee was sent off for a straight red card lunge into John Lundstram just three minutes after Jordan Obita was also sent off.

It’s a decision which Nick Montgomery has questioned, even if the Hibs boss conceded his side were beaten by a “very, very good” Rangers team.

“Young Nathan, he’s 21-years-old,” said Montgomery. “He’s gone to block a ball down the line, again, from what I’ve seen there was no contract.

“It’s a yellow card. I’m surprised that he didn’t go to the VAR monitor and have a look at it himself.”

Rangers now join Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-finals, with the draw to be concluded tomorrow after Hearts travel to Greenock Morton.
