Here’s how Rangers fans reacted to Celtic crashing out of Europe

Oh how smug Rangers’ Celtic rivals were ahead of those big clashes in Europe this week.

Rangers – struggling domestically – were seemingly on to a scolding with Braga just too good a side for Steven Gerrard to handle.

After we beat them 4-2 on aggregate suddenly they’re no great shakes.

Celtic – all-conquering on home soil – were also supposed to be strong for puny Copenhagen. As it stands, Celtic still haven’t won a European knockout round match since 2004.

It shall be the Rangers flag which is flying alongside the saltire in Europe as a return to the natural order of things continues in Scotland.

Steven Gerrard’s success in Europe has helped drag the image of Scottish football out of the proverbial gutter, spruce it up, and turn heads as it confidently strolls into the last 16.

This is a stage of the competition where the likes of Arsenal and Benfica have just crashed out. It’s no mean feat.

Given Rangers’ stumbling domestic form, Celtic’s exit provided somewhat of a timely boost for fans.

Even if the old coefficient argument does contain more than a modicum of sense, it hasn’t stopped the Ibrox legions goading their Old Firm rivals.

After all, all eyes will be on Rangers when the draw is made in Nyon this afternoon and when the matches are played next month, not Celtic.
