Hearts’ Marcus Godinho has dished out major praise for Scott Arfield, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
The pair are both currently representing Canada in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
So far, things have gone swimmingly. They swept aside Martinique 4-0 in their first fixture, with Arfield netting.
“Scotty has been incredible for us,” he said, as
“He is clinical when he gets an opportunity and his ability just shines through. He is someone I’m trying to learn from every day and, even playing against him in Scotland, I love that challenge.
“He is always giving out advice, teaching the younger boys things and he brings that Scottish banter with him, which I enjoy. He has been accepted since day one and we’re lucky to have him.
“This could be the strongest Canada team of all time when you look at the attacking options. There is a genuine belief in the camp that we can win the tournament.”
These comments provide more evidence that the Scottish FA made a grave error with Arfield.
Remarkably, despite playing in the Premier League, he was consistently overlooked by Scotland managers. That prompted him to eventually use his Canadian citizenship just to get a taste of international football.
He hasn’t looked back since and has been rewarded with the armband.
Arfield had a fantastic first season at Ibrox and it seems he’s still riding the crest of the wave. Let’s hope he can get his hands on some silverware next month, whetting his appetite for things to come at club level.
