Hearts are gearing up for a legal battle with the SPFL and SFA if they’re relegated from the Scottish Premiership amid the coronavirus football shutdown.

According to the Edinburgh Evening News, the Jambos will fight any decision to relegate the Tynecastle club due to their current position at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.

With eight games still to go Hearts currently sit four points off Hamilton in 11th and prior to the season’s premature end were still very much in a relegation dogfight.

The SPFL is yet to decide the outcome of the league shut down amid the global pandemic but the Edinburgh Evening News have been told “the club are willing to take legal action in the event of a premature demotion.”

At the other side of the league table, Celtic manager Neil Lennon was criticised by Rangers fans [PLZ Soccer] for demanding the title go to Parkhead in the event of a league cancellation.

This is a sentiment echoed by numerous Celtic voices in the media and unsurprisingly one which is refuted by Rangers fans.

Celtic currently have a 13-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership but Rangers have a game in hand on their rivals and there are still two Old Firms to be played.

The coronavirus shutdown looks increasingly likely to force the league campaign to finish early and the fall-out from the situation looks like it is only just beginning.
