It’s been said plenty of times before. And plenty of times before people have been left with egg on their faces. Plenty of times Heart of Midlothian have promised so much but delivered little. But make no mistake, at this present moment Hearts look like real title contenders. It’s hard to argue otherwise.
The Gorgie boys have been ruthless, well organised and will be very difficult to beat. They sit an impressive five points off Edinburgh rivals Hibs and eight ahead of Rangers.
It’s Ibrox they travel to on Sunday, but regardless of the result, Hearts will still be there or there abouts at the end of the season. They’ll have a big role to play in where the title goes in May anyway.
Huge performance on Saturday turned a few heads
It’s almost like people have been waiting for the Edinburgh outfit to slip up. Yet they keep pulling off results and marching on.
They beat St. Johnstone 2-1 at Tynecastle to make it six wins out of seven. The only time they’ve dropped points was against the team which defeated Rangers yesterday, Livingston.
They also have real quality throughout the team. John Souttar is a superb option at centre back, Steven Naismith is a super option up front. In between they have strength, depth, togetherness and goals. Olly Lee has scored four goals from midfield, Peter Haring can’t stop scoring with five from the back.
At the helm Craig Levein seems to be entering a purple patch and can’t seem to do or say any wrong. It’s all very positive in Midlothian.
Will it be Rangers who stop them in their tracks on Sunday?
Steven Gerrard described his next two fixtures as must win after the surprisingly poor performance from Rangers yesterday. After Rapid Vienna at Ibrox, Hearts come to Govan. The thing is, even after Livingston I fancy us to pip the Tyncastle side.
At home, I fancy Rangers against anyone. Hearts included.
But even if Rangers do get a result against them, don’t discount them.
Most Old Firm fans are slowly waking up to it. Hearts look like serious contenders at the moment.
