Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Ruben Amorim have been talking to the press ahead of Rangers’ Europa League trip down south.
The Gers are preparing to lock horns with Man United in a Battle of Britain clash between two clubs for whom historic fortunes have taken a sour turn in the last decade.
Ahead of the clash at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim branded this the ‘worst Manchester United ever’ with the Red Devils toiling in 13th in the Premier League.
Rangers have also proven time and again that they have the guts to go the distance in the Europa League and will prove stern competition at the Theatre of Dreams.
Harry Maguire on Rangers challenge
It’s all set to be a cracker and Harry Maguire has been talking about Rangers and the club’s ’great support’ ahead of the Manchester United clash.
The England international is also not taking the match lightly and expects a ‘tough’ game against ‘physical’ opposition.
”We expect a tough game,” said Maguire.
”We know they’re going to come here and give everything, they’re going to be followed with great support.
”I think they’ve done extremely well in the competition.
“We expect a tough game but I think our focus is on ourselves, making sure we perform on the back of a bad defeat at the weekend.
”We’ll go there with confidence that we can perform and get the three points.”
Ruben Amorim on Rangers fans and Philippe Clement
Ruben Amorim also referenced the Ibrox support heading into the game with a top eight finish for both the Gers and Manchester United in the Europa League balance.
The Portuguese manager, 39, has urged his team to overcome Rangers and get into the last 16 of the competition, bypassing the playoff round.
Amorim has also paid tribute to the Rangers support and admits United are expecting a ‘really tough match’.
”We expect like Harry said a tough match,” said Amorim. “A lot of physicality during the game.
”It’s really important for us because we want to skip the playoff, it’s really important to have time to train so I expect the same thing that we face in the last game.
”A really tough match, lot of physicality, with also the fans of Rangers making some noise.
”So we are prepared, our fans are prepared, and we want to win.”
Ruben Amorim was also asked about the pressure Philippe Clement finds himself under at Rangers after falling 13 points behind Celtic in the title race.
The Rangers manager still has some convincing to do amongst Gers fans and the under-pressure Manchester United boss empathises with his situation.
”It’s really hard,” said Amorim. “This massive club and Rangers won a lot, I think it’s the club with more titles in Europe.
”So it’s really hard in this moment for any coach in any club but I hope to improve my team before, especially tomorrow, so I feel the pain of the Rangers coach.”
