Rangers fans were delighted in the week to see the club sign an official partnership agreement with German side Hamburger SV.

The Ibrox club’s supporters and fans of the Volkparkstadion side have long held an affection towards one another but this is the first time the relationship has been made official.

There will be more to come on the arrangement between the two in the next few seasons but in the meantime it’s a chance for those who follow both sides to celebrate.

The origins of the relationship are believed to have stemmed from Glaswegian workers in Hamburg forming a Rangers Supporters Club in the country.

The relationship has grown stronger over the years as fans have travelled between the two clubs to both watch matches and join in with the local culture.

It’s clear the link-up has been warmly received by Rangers supporters, but what about those in Hamburg?

The German fans are known to hold an affection to Rangers and just like with the Ibrox club, there were plenty on Twitter celebrating the link-up between the Gers and HSV:

“How cool is that? I got to know many Rangers fans in Hamburg (gas station). Great people, you can celebrate well with” @18Freddy87

“That calls for a test game” @Heffalu23475943

“Very good choice! Internationally the best association for a partnership! We fans are happy!” @EpionZusaku

The link-up being made official is sure to throw up some ambitious plans in the future and fans of both sides can be excited about what’s to come.

Here’s how Rangers fans reacted to the news just as it broke with Hamburger SV joining the likes of Orange County and Bengaluru in joining forces with the Gers.
