Greg Docherty’s displays at Shrewsbury Town this season have been sensational.
When loan players are told to go out an make an impact, they want to do what Docherty is doing. Comparing his loan spell with that of say Eduardo Herrera, and he deserves credit for the impact he’s making.
So far, Docherty has managed to bag four goals and four assists in 15 appearances so far down south. He’s making a terrific impact, and will be keen on catching the eye of Billy Kirkwood – Rangers’ new loan manager.

Meanwhile, back at Ibrox, Steven Gerrard seems to be starting to get to grips with his best midfield. This seems to involve Ovie Ejaria, Scott Arfield, and Ryan Jack. The displays of Lassana Coulibaly haven’t impressed recently, and he appears to have lost his place in the Rangers side.
It’s the first time this season that you could positively say that this is Rangers’ best midfield three. But if this is certainly Rangers’ best midfield, in what way does that benefit Docherty?
Well, simply the fact that one of those midfielders is on-loan, whilst the one in first reserve is also being borrowed.
Minimal chances of permanently signing
The chances of signing up Ejaria and Coulibaly at the end of the season look fairly minimal. The former remains a hot prospect at Anfield and only signed a new contract back in June. He was then immediately farmed out to Gers on loan.
Coulibaly, meanwhile, won’t be wanted back at Ibrox unless he improves his performances greatly.
Therefore, there’ll be two midfield spots up for grabs, and Gerrard is going to have to find some new players. Docherty, however, can throw himself to the top of the list for potential candidates.

Gerrard has already sent his scouts to watch Docherty up close this season. The Rangers manager has been extremely impressed with how his fringe-man is performing.
Docherty also has the advantage of being widely liked by the Rangers support. The fan-base at Ibrox appreciated the drive and commitment he had last season. He was an only bright spark when many looked extremely poor.
Now, as he continues to shine brightly down at Shrewsbury, he can use the potential departures to his advantage if he keeps on starring.
