Former Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie has tipped Rangers to win the Scottish Premiership this season, claiming the Ibrox club “are looking the strongest just now”.
It comments that are sure to rankle with our friends in the east end, Shinnie said he thinks the title race will be a lot closer this year but you can’t rule out Celtic.
Now at Derby County, the former Pittodrie captain was speaking to talkSPORT after he hit a late winner for the Rams against Wigan last night.

“I think it’s going to be an exciting one this year. It’s going to be a lot closer than we’ve had over the last couple of years,” said Shinnie [as quoted by the Evening Times].
“I think Rangers are strong this year but you can never rule Celtic out and what they’ve achieved in the last three years.
“If I had to say one, I would probably say Rangers are looking the strongest just now.”
Shinnie, who’s had a difficult start to life down south following former Derby boss Frank Lampard’s departure to Chelsea, knows all about the Old Firm sides from his time with Aberdeen.
He will still be in close contact with people at Aberdeen and it’s interesting that only a few months on from his departure he believes Rangers are in a better position to win the title.

Shinnie could have also ended up at Rangers with his contract expiring at Aberdeen last season.
The former Dons player was routinely linked with Ibrox [Darrell Currie] as his contract ran down in the northeast.
