Rangers coach Graeme Murty has heaped praise on Ibrox defenders George Edmundson and Jon Flanagan for how they handled themselves in the Colts 2-0 win over Wrexham.
The English duo was selected as the two first-team players which can be employed by the Colts and provided a much needed defensive solidity against physical opposition.
Development team boss Murty was especially pleased with how seriously the two players took the match, crediting them for buying into what the young side are trying to achieve.

“They were great [Edmundson and Flanagan],” Murty told Rangers News.
“Just in terms of their manner, their professionalism and the way they go about their business and speak to our young players is invaluable.
“Rhys Breen having George and Flanno next to him is a fantastic learning curve for him. I have to be thankful to those guys, not just for being excellent professionals as they are, but the manner in which they approached it.
“They knew it meant something to our younger players and they weren’t going to come and devalue it.
“They put as much value on it as our players did and I think our players can only learn and grow from playing with players like that so we’re really thankful to them.”

It’s a glowing review from Murty and testament to the character of both players that they were willing to come in and give it their all for the young side.
Some players may have huffed and moaned over taking the step down but these two players were professional throughout.
It shows humility from former England international Flanagan and a determination to succeed from young George Edmundson.

It wasn’t the only time Edmundson was out helping younger players this weekend either.
