‘Good’, ‘Didn’t seem right fit’, ‘Club has to get it right’… Rangers fans react to CEO latest, as new name emerges

Rangers currently sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership, have no CEO, no academy director and have a well payed international footballer who wants to play for the club training with the B team.

Philippe Clement inherited a shambles and it is fair to say that, even ignoring the quality of the squad, things have only got worse during his tenure – not that it is his fault, of course.

The farce with upgrading Ibrox saw John Bennett distracted from his role assisting the Rangers recruitment team, a job he shouldn’t have had to do with a CEO on board.

Rangers make CEO change of direction

The vacancy looked sit to be filled by St Mirren’s Jim Gillespie, however, whether the board saw sense, or the candidate pulled out, he isn’t in the running any more.

Had Bennett plumped for an executive on familiarity rather than suitability, the fall out would only have been exacerbated.

Rangers fans are on the brink given the manager having to cope with a wage restructure at the same time as rebuilding the squad and many feel that he has had the rug pulled from under him.

What is clear, is that fans, for once, are united in the news that Gillespie isn’t in line to take one of the toughest and most prestigious jobs in football.

Those of a Light Blue persuasion took to X as the news broke about the CEO change of direction.

New name emerges as Rangers CEO hunt continues

Rangers aren’t quite back at square one and a new name has emerged as a potential replacement for James Bisgrove – if anything, he would be an upgrade and a universally accepted appointment.

Not only that, former FA man Adrian Bevington is said to be keen on the role and has left the Rangers board with a tap in.

In his own words, he knows exactly the type of person Rangers need, as told to Go Radio

“Obviously, they are not happy with the situation they are in at the moment, the fans are definitely not happy.

“I have been following it very, very closely. Clearly, they were well beaten at the weekend by a very strong Celtic team. There is a lot of pressure flying around there.

“What I would say, is whoever the chief executive is going to be for Rangers has got to be someone who can show real leadership, is a good communicator, got to have a real understanding of the game and the industry, knowledge of the transfer market.

“Yes, they have got to be commercially strong to increase the revenues but ultimately I think they have got to have football industry nous and a real common sense and the ability to work relationships.

“If you have got all of that you’ve got a chance but it is still a very demanding, difficult job for whoever that person may be.”

Bevington ticks all these boxes.

Surely, they can’t mess this one up too?
