Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo’s latest injury diagnosis means he could be set to miss the League Cup semi-final – if his teammates can haul the club to Hampden.

The Gers are suffering from something of a mini-injury crisis as of late with Welsh winger Rabbi Matondo now set for six weeks on the sidelines.

That definitely rules the player out of this week’s must-win League Cup quarter-final clash with Livingston at Ibrox as well as the rest of the matches before October’s international break.

But should Rangers overcome Livingston and book a semi-final date at Hampden – anything less than which would likely cost Michael Beale his job – then Rabbi Matondo might not be back to play in it.

According to leading Scottish football journalist Chris Jack, the ex-Man City and Schalke talent is set to miss ‘six weeks’ with an injury sustained in the win over Motherwell.

Rabbi Matondo to miss up to nine matches through injury

With the League Cup semi-finals set to take place the weekend of November 4th/5th, Rabbi Matondo’s latest injury diagnosis means he’s scheduled to return some time around the potential fixture.

Rangers have a tricky tie to navigate against David Martindale’s team this week but having dumped the Lions 4-0 at Ibrox earlier in the season, are expected to the do the business in Govan.

After a stuttering 1-0 victory over Motherwell at the weekend there is no-one at Rangers counting their chickens but anything less than victory would be a disaster for the club.

With Celtic already knocked out of the competition, if Rangers fail to end their 12 year hoodoo in the hunt for this trophy there will also be hell to pay at Ibrox.

But they will likely have to get to the final without Rabbi Matondo who becomes the latest Rangers star to succumb to injury in recent weeks.

Todd Cantwell, Kieran Dowell, Nicolas Raskin, Tom Lawrence and Danilo are all considered important players for Rangers and are all currently out of the team with injury.

On top of the League Cup clash with Livingston, and the potential semi-final to follow, Rabbi Matondo will also miss clashes with Aberdeen (H), St Mirren (A), Hibs (H), Hearts (H) and Dundee (A) in the Scottish Premiership and Europa League clashes against Aris Limassol (A) and Sparta Prague (A).
