As Rangers gear up for an assault on the Scottish Premiership, Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard has praised the strength and depth in his side.
Amongst the Ibrox faithful there’s a real hope that finally, the club are beginning to mould a squad capable of properly going the distance in the league title race.
Asked about bringing off Colombian firebrand Alfredo Morelos for Swiss new-boy Cedric Itten, the Gers gaffer proved he understands the club by suggesting having strength in depth is how it should be at Rangers.
“We’re Rangers,” explained Gerrard to RangersTV.
“Rangers should have strength in depth, Rangers should have good players, good squad players and you should be as a manager be able to rest players and bring in the same quality because we’re a big football club and we’re Rangers.
“I’m delighted with the strength in depth we’ve got at the moment, we’ve started the season really well, but we need to recover now and try find the same kind of display on Wednesday night.”
Rangers fans have been through multiple transformations as the club looked to build its way back up from the bottom of Scottish football.
In that, the club have also been through a multitude of managers who have never quite been able to mould a squad which can compete at the top level.
Things have changed with Steven Gerrard and the club now has ambitions domestically and in Europe which previous squads of the last eight years were incapable of achieving.
These comments have hit a note with Rangers fans who believe that finally they have a manager who “gets it”.
