Steven Gerrard has joked that he wishes Villarreal midfielder Santi Cazorla wasn’t playing his Rangers team tomorrow. Simply because he’s a fantastic player.

The former Liverpool skipper played against former Arsenal man Santi Cazorla plenty of times in the Premier League. Gerrard is a big fan of the little Spaniards ability.

He wished him in his recovery and described him as a fantastic player.

Gerrard said: “I wish he [Santi Cazorla] wasn’t playing us tomorrow! He is a fantastic player – great on the eye and it is great for the game he is back”.

Cazorla rebuilding career after injury hell

The little playmaker was one of the best loved players at Arsenal for over six years.

An enigmatic talent, he rarely got the credit he deserved in the league for his ability. While people focused on the likes of Gerrard and Lampard, Cazorla was a deadly option for the Gunners.

He played over 175 games for the club and was a striking, dynamic midfielder who could pass and shoot from anywhere.

Tragically, he picked up a damaged Achilles tendon in a routine Arsenal win v Ludogrets in 2016 and what followed was years of operations and setbacks.

Cazorla wouldn’t play for the club for almost two years and was eventually released. He feared he’d never play football again.

At Villarreal, 33-year-old Cazorla is back at the club where he started his career. Now, he’s looking to get his career back on track and becoming a creative force to be reckoned with again.

Gerrard clearly thinks he’s still got it. He also thinks Rangers have a chance.
