Most fans would recognise that he has been one of the most successful bits of transfer business so far, under Gerrard’s short reign.
He has now played 39 times for the Gers. A remarkable statistic, considering he only racked up 38 appearances in three seasons at Brighton.
The manager says there’s a reason for that.

‘I can tell by his face, Connor reminds me in many ways of Jamie Carragher, who would get confrontational when you tried to rest him”, said Gerrard, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“That’s the mentality we need at this football club. We need players who are desperate to put their bodies on the line.”
“He certainly ticks that box.”
“He has been huge for us since day one. When I first sat down with Connor I got a feeling that he was a winner and a leader.”

A comparison with Carragher will be flattering for the Englishman.
With over 500 Premier League appearances and a Champions League winners medal, he’s not a bad player to take inspiration from.
Gerrard played alongside the now Sky Sports pundit, for over a decade. Therefore, it’s unlikely he would use the comparison lightly.
Both are tough tackling, no nonsense centre-backs, but Goldson has a lot of winning to do if he’s to be put on a par with the Liverpool great, for anything other than his attitude.
