Steven Gerrard has backed Rangers skipper, James Tavernier, in an interview with RangersTV.
The skipper missed a penalty during the 0-0 Scottish Cup draw with Kilmarnock last Saturday.
Had he converted, the Gers may already have sealed their place in the Sixth Round.
Yet, it wasn’t to be.
Daniel Bachmann, on loan from Watford, was equal to the spot kick – denying the Gers an early advantage.
Tavernier also scored two, but missed once from the spot against St Mirren, at the beginning of the month.

However, Gerrard doesn’t think it’s time to relieve the skipper of the the responsibilities.
“In the main he has been very consistent and he is certainly someone who myself and players trust from the penalty spot”, Gerrard told RangersTV.
“He has got the character to bounce back, so if we get a penalty again, James will take it.”
“If he makes a decision, goes with it and doesn’t get it right then we back him. He has taken some really big penalties under pressure for us and delivered so that’s where we get our trust and confidence in him.”
That certainly seems a fair enough call right now.
After all, Tavernier has only missed those two times from the spot, since becoming the designated taker in November 2017.
If he fails again soon, it may be time for a change.
For now though, he has earned the right to keep taking them.
Next time round, let’s hope he can convert.
