Last month, Rangers captured the signing of centre-back, George Edmundson.
The 21-year-old joined on a four-year deal from Oldham Athletic for a reported £700,000 [BBC Sport]. It concluded something of a transfer saga.
Multiple English clubs were said to have an interest in Edmundson. Sunderland, Portsmouth, Wigan, Hull and Reading were all said to be keen [Chronicle]. Furthermore, Peterborough United’s Chairman thought he’d secured the defender’s services before Oldham apparently moved the goalposts, causing him to rage on Twitter.
Yet, it seems that despite all the interest in his services and bidding wars, Edmundson always had his heart set on Ibrox.

“It was an easy one to sign here,” said Edmundson,
“There were a few days when I thought it might not happen but I was happy with my decision.
“I told Oldham that Rangers was the place I wanted to go. If bids came in from elsewhere I didn’t want to go there, it was always Rangers.”
These comments should be music to the ears of all Bears.

Edmundson is a young centre-back who may struggle for game time this season. However, it’s always good to hear that new signings are genuinely excited about the challenge that awaits them.
After an impressive 2018/19, he found himself in demand. However, he chose to shift his life to Scotland in order to link up with Gerrard and to experience what it’s like to be a Ger.
Let’s hope the move works out for all parties, and that when afforded an opportunity, Edmundson can impress.
