Gary Neville is sure to strike a chord with Rangers supporters as he criticises the “below par” performances of Manchester United.

The former Old Trafford right-back – who made 602 appearances for Manchester United – was talking after the club’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend.

With the Red Devils slipping down to 7th in the Premier League, it’s a startling reminder of the sub-par performance of English football’s most successful club.

Despite spending more money than any other club in world football on transfers in the last decade (£1.19bn) Gary Neville has watched Manchester United toil since the exit of the legendary manager and club icon Sir Alex Ferguson.

United haven’t won the Premier League since 2013, Sir Alex’s final campaign, and the club’s erratic performance bares a startling similarity to Rangers.

Gary Neville “bored” of Manchester United

Both are Goliaths in their respective nations and both are clubs who feed off former glories, with the results of their leadership on and off the park generally abysmal in recent seasons.

Speaking after the Newcastle result, Manchester United legend Gary Neville claims he’s “bored” with the club in comments which we’e sure will resonate with frustrated Rangers fans.

Whilst the Ibrox side won their weekend’s Scottish Premiership clash with St Mirren, back-to-back draws with Aberdeen and Aris Limassol represented the same old story when the pressure is on.

“It’s well below par, it’s really disappointing,” Gary Neville told Sky Sports. “I feel like we’re in a cycle where the noise against the manager is starting to occur.

“There is then those same noises that say ‘we’ll surely we can’t get rid of another manager, we have to get rid of the players’ and then we turn to the owners and I’m bored.

“I have become tired of my own club. I don’t want to do their games any more, I don’t want to watch their games any more.

“That is the saddest indictment you can have of your football club, when you become bored of watching them.

“And it’s not just me; a couple of people in the last couple of weeks have said ‘enough is enough’.”

Rangers similarities clear at Old Trafford

Continuing in the same vein, Gary Neville spoke about his lack of belief in the Manchester United team as the games come thick and fast this season.

With the Old Trafford outfit travelling to face Chelsea on Wednesday evening, Rangers are in a similar situation with a tricky trip to Hearts on the horizon.

Admitting that he’ll never give up on the club, the former England right-back’s fears around Erik ten Hag’s side bear a striking resemblance to a lack of belief in the Rangers squad.

“The daft thing is, on Wednesday night I’ll build my whole Wednesday night around watching Manchester United, because that’s we do,” said Neville.

“But I feel tired of watching them and I think that’s a sad position to be in because I love that club and I love the excitement of football.

“But I’m already fearing what’s going to happen at Anfield in a few weeks, just purely because it could be a mess.

“I’m already fearing what’s going to happen on Wednesday night against Chelsea.

“There’s no confidence, the whole club has lost our confidence as fans and in the media now we just don’t trust them either because the reality is they fall below par time and time again and it’s not good enough.”

Speaking of Gary Neville, you’ll never guess which atmosphere he rates as the best he played in.
