Rangers take on BSC Young Boys of Switzerland this afternoon, in their second Europa League Group G tie.
After an impressive first-up win over Feyenoord at Ibrox, confidence is high in the Gers camp, and Steven Gerrard reflected that with his pre-match comments.
There’s no intention of going to Bern and sitting in for a draw. Rangers want to go and score goals and head back to Glasgow with three more points in the bag.
However, the wording used by the manager to express that aim, as quoted by the Rangers Twitter account, was a little unfortunate…
The latter tweet garnered a lot of attention, over 16,000 likes, with some fans suggesting slightly better phrasing could have been used.

Gary Linekar trolls Rangers boss
After the tweet went viral, English football Hall of Famer, Gary Lineker, couldn’t resist joining in.
Lineker’s illustrious career ended before Gerrard’s began, but they do know each other well from their punditry work with BT Sport before Stevie G took the Ibrox hot seat.
Lineker’s tweet racked up close to 10,000 likes of its own, as fans latched onto the unintentional gaffe.
Sympathies with the manager on this one, it’s a banana skin of a club name!
Unfortunate wording aside, it’s important Rangers do bring intensity into today’s tie.
They’ve looked at their best this season when playing with aggression and high tempo and if they can bring both of those attributes to Switzerland, the Gers are in with a chance.
