Furious Rangers fans have called out the infamous “trial by Sportscene” as a potentially dangerous challenge by Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard goes without scrutiny on the flagship football show [30/12/20].

The French U21 striker crunched into a Dundee United star Peter Pawlett just moments before Dave Turnbull fired the ball into the net to make it 2-0 to Celtic.

For many Rangers supporters this in stark contrast to the type of coverage routinely leveraged at Alfredo Morelos.

The Celtic Edouard incident comes after a huge media campaign to bemoan Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos for a clash with Dundee United defender Mark Connolly.

Morelos was retrospectively banned for the incident – which was considerably less dangerous than the Edouard tackle – and Rangers fans have asked why the same media campaign hasn’t gathered behind Edouard.

It’s not just concerning Morelos either – a focus on the number of penalties awarded against Rangers this week across the media was caveated by Celtic defender Chris Jullien appearing to get off with a handball against the Arabs.

For many Rangers supporters, the “trial by Sportscene” is all too transparent aas they complain about a disparity in the coverage:

For fans this isn’t about banning the player for the upcoming Old Firm but more about a fair and balanced media reviewing both clubs and their players.

Rangers supporters simply want a balanced playing field as these incidents show up elements of hypocrisy in the coverage of different clubs in Scotland.
