Formerly Rangers linked attacking midfielder, Ryan Gauld, is currently in stunning form for Portuguese club SC Farense.

It was reported by the Scottish Sun via Record.pt back in August 2018 that the Gers were considering a swoop for the then Sporting Lisbon player as a replacement for the injured Jamie Murphy.

While no Ibrox transfer materialised, Gauld did return to Scotland on loan at Hibernian in January 2019, but injuries restricted him to just six appearances.

In July, he left Sporting permanently to join Farense of the Portuguese second-tier, and he’s showing his quality.

After a relatively quiet start to the campaign, he’s currently in the midst of a fine goalscoring run, with an 83rd-minute equaliser away at Lexioes at the weekend taking him to eight in his last seven appearances.

At the back end of last month, he netted a hat-trick against Academico Viseu, which followed a brace against Vilafranquense the previous weekend.

It’s a run of form which has helped his side establish themselves in second place in the Liga Pro, as the Faro-based club chase promotion to the Primeira Liga.

Clearly, Gauld isn’t playing in an elite European league, but he’s certainly performing to a high standard, while, in contrast, Rangers lack creativity and precision in the final third.

Steven Gerrard’s side have netted ten times in the Scottish Premiership since the turn of the year, which is just two more than the 24-year-old Scot has for Farense over the same period.
