Soccerlink reports that previously Rangers linked player Renato Tapia is in advanced talks with Celta Vigo.

The 24-year-old, who was linked to both Rangers and Celtic by Voetbal International earlier in the season, is coming to the end of his current deal at Feyenoord and is available on a free transfer.

Tapia turned out against Rangers during the Europa League group stages in September and it has been suggested that Steven Gerrard was considering making a swoop.

La Liga strugglers Celta Vigo now look as though they’re keen to snap him up, though, with Soccerlink reporting discussions have reached an advanced stage.

It has been some time since the initial links to Tapia emerged but it’s a move that would make sense on many levels.

His free-agent status means there is minimal financial risk, while his versatility ensures multiple areas of the squad would be bolstered by his arrival.

At 24, he is coming into his prime years but also has experience behind him, having won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord back in 2017.

It seems that Rangers would need to produce an offer soon, though, with Celta close to an agreement.

Another possible target who could strengthen the Gers midfield is Lewis Ferguson [Scottish Sun], but given he is tied to a long-term contract at Aberdeen, any move for the 20-year-old would likely involve a considerable fee.
