Back in May, a Football Insider report, that was picked up by national publications such as The Scotsman, linked Rangers with a swoop for Karim Ansarifard.
It was suggested that the Gers could look to prize him from his then club side, Nottingham Forest, in order to boost their attacking options.
However, no such move materialised and instead, the 29-year-old joined Al-Sailiya in the Qatar Stars League.
He’s started well for his new side, scoring three times in his first six matches, and he’s certainly taken that form into this international block.
The no.10 scored four times on Thursday as Iran trounced Cambodia 14-0 in a mismatch of a World Cup Qualifier.
It means Ansarifard now has five goals in two games, after netting in his country’s first qualifier against Hong Kong last month.
Scoring against international minnows like Cambodia isn’t enough to prove he’d have been a hit in the Scottish Premiership, and the current form of Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe means the Gers aren’t exactly longing for a third striker.
It’s certainly a strong start to the season for him, though, and who knows, the Gers could turn their attentions to him again if injuries hit in January.
