Former Rangers winger Neil McCann has registered his interest in the vacant managerial post at Kilmarnock, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
The Rugby Park hot seat became available yesterday when Steve Clarke was appointed Scotland manager.
His departure comes as a welcome end of season bonus for Steven Gerrard. He failed to get the better of Clarke in any of his side’s four league fixtures against Killie across the campaign.
Rangers record goalscorer, Ally McCoist, has already registered his interest [Scottish Sun], and now McCann has entered the running.
The 44-year-old managed Dundee until October 2018, and since then, he’s been without a club.
“Of course I would,” said McCann, as
“Managers out of work all over the country right now will probably be ahead of me in terms of getting their name in there.
“Of course, it’s attractive. European football. A team that are very stable, a very, very good squad of players that clearly know the workings of each other.
“I believe that the majority of them are under contract. It isn’t an easy job to take over from someone like Steve Clarke.”
Verdict
It will be interesting to see whether either former Ger is genuinely considered for the role.
McCoist may hold a slight advantage over McCann, considering he spent time at Killie as a player. However, it’s the latter who has the more recent managerial experience.
McCoist gave up his post at Rangers in 2014, and since then, has been more involved in media than coaching.
