Former Rangers winger Fraser Aird has signed for Cove Rangers.
The 24-year-old made 63 league appearances for the Gers between 2012 and 2017, scoring nine times [Soccerbase]. Born in Canada to Scottish parents, he’s also a full Canadian international, with eight caps and a goal against Scotland to his name.

However, his career hit something of a bump recently, when he was released by Dundee United on deadline day [Dundeeunitedfc.co.uk], having fallen out of favour.
That has signalled a drop to the fourth tier, to join the SPFL newcomers.
Former Rangers winger Aird secures move
“I’m just delighted to get the opportunity to get back playing again,” Aird told Coverangers.com. “It’s not nice being out of the game and I’m grateful to be given this opportunity to get back in with Cove Rangers.”
“There were a few other options on the table but as soon as I spoke to Cove manager Paul Hartley and the chairman (Keith Moorhouse) I knew this was where I wanted to be.”

Aird joins former Arabs teammate Fraser Fyfie at Balmoral Stadium and the manager is pleased to have him on board.
“We are delighted to have added a player of Fraser’s quality to our squad,” Hartley told Coverangers.com. “We only found out in the last couple of days that he might be available so I can only thank the chairman and the other directors for all they did to get a deal agreed.”
“Even though it’s a short term contract, it suits both parties.”

Verdict
This is certainly something of a surprise drop-down for Aird, a player who would probably not have envisaged himself playing in the bottom rung of the SPFL aged 24.
However, the deal is only until January and it’s likely that if he performs well, he’ll be snapped up by someone higher up the ladder in the next transfer window.
He’s set to go straight into the first-team squad and could feature at home to Annan Athletic in Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.
