Former Rangers midfielder Claudio Reyna’s son has been promoted to the Borussia Dortmund first team and has earned praise from the club’s sporting director, as quoted by the Scotsman.
17-year-old Gio Reyna, who is an attacking midfielder, signed from New York City FC in the summer and is already making a big impression in Germany.

Having starred for the club’s U19s, he was selected for the senior squad’s mid-season training camp in Marbella and went on to score in a friendly win over Feyenoord.
Such was his impact, that he’s since been promoted to train under Lucien Favre and co.
Having been included on the bench for a Bundesliga game last month, this isn’t Reyna’s first experience of the first-team, but based on the words of sporting director, Michael Zorc, it looks like this is a permanent switch.
“He presented himself well in Marbella, that’s why we want to put him on a much higher level at training,” he said, as quoted by the Scotsman.
“We want to develop him to a full-fledged player of Borussia Dortmund.”
Claudio enjoyed a stellar career in which, as well as winning a domestic double with Rangers in the 1999/2000 season, he earned over 100 international caps for the United States and enjoyed spells in England with Sunderland and Manchester City.

While Gio is still very young, it certainly looks like he’s going the right way about forging a big professional career of his own.
Perhaps, in transfer windows to come, the Gers should put the feelers out for an ambitious loan swoop!
