Former Rangers starlet Nathan Patterson started for Scotland in last night’s friendly clash against Poland at Hampden, where he produced an excellent performance which should confuse any Everton fans who were watching as to why he can’t get into their starting XI.

The match finished 1-1, with Poland scoring a last gasp penalty but it was a fine Scotland performance and proves that as a nation, we shouldn’t fear anyone.

The main talking point was that of Patterson’s showing, constantly being a menace down the right-hand side and he arguably could have grabbed a goal in the first half. This shows even though he is out of the picture at Everton, he can still produce when called upon.

Nathan Patterson shines for Scotland despite lack of minutes under Frank Lampard at Everton

The 20-year-old earned a stunning move to Everton in January, for a fee believed to be around £16m, which is a record sale for the Ibrox club.

It was tough for him to usurp captain and right back mainstay James Tavernier, and the move looked perfect at the time.

It hasn’t exactly gone to plan thus far, although he is clearly a signing for the future, he is surely better than Jonjoe Kenny, who has struggled under Lampard.

Patterson has played 45 minutes for the Toffees in their FA Cup win over Boreham Wood, but he was hooked at halftime much to the fan’s bemusement and hasn’t featured since.

The Scotland international was one of the finest talents produced by the Rangers academy and is a shame to see it going to waste so far at Everton. Hopefully, he can get a run of outings following his performance for Scotland last night and really kick on.

Meanwhile, Alfredo Morelos wasn’t included in Colombia’s squad for their qualifier against Bolivia due to muscle overload.
