In a hilarious twist, former Rangers star Kevin Muscat has replaced Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as manager of Yokohama F Marinos.
Muscat won the treble with Rangers during the 2002/03 season, his only campaign at the club.
Therefore, it was a surprise when, in June, the Aussie was linked with taking up a role as his compatriot’s assistant at Celtic Park [SEN].
Muscat and Postecoglou did play together at South Melbourne and then teamed up as coaches at Melbourne Victory almost a decade ago.
However, the link was soon rubbished by the Glasgow Times and the former Ger then paid a visit to Oswald’s Bar in Glasgow City Centre, showing where his loyalties lie.
Muscat had been out of work since being sacked as manager of Belgian club Sint-Truidense in December 2020 but he’s now very much back in the game, taking over from Postecoglou at Marinos.
His appointment was officially confirmed on Sunday and he joins with the club sitting second in the J1 League table behind Kawasaki Frontale.
“I am very honored to be the manager of Yokohama F. Marinos, one of the most successful soccer clubs in Japan,” he said [translated] [f-marinos.com]. “First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the club for giving me this opportunity, and I am very much looking forward to taking on new challenges in Asia’s most competitive J.League.”

“In order to achieve our goals, we would like to build on what former coach Ange Postecoglou has built and do our best to run powerfully this season.
“We look forward to meeting the players and staff who will work hard to accomplish something special.”
Muscat will have to complete an isolation period before getting to work but Marinos’ next fixture isn’t until 6 August.
