Former Rangers attacking midfielder Harry Forrester has paid tribute to the Ibrox club as he officially hangs up his boots and retires from football.

The 32-year-old Englishman spent two-and-a-half years at Ibrox between January 2016 and the summer of 2018 but struggled to make a tangible impact as the club toiled in the Scottish Premiership.

Initially joining on loan from Doncaster Rovers, the midfielder played a role under Mark Warburton but was eventually shipped out to AFC Wimbledon when Pedro Caixinha came into the club, despite only just signing a three-year deal a few months previously.

Playing in 44 games for the Gers, Harry Forrester scored eight goals for Rangers and laid on three assists across his spell in Govan before being released in the summer of 2018.

Coming through as a youth at Aston Villa, Forrester also spent time at Watford, Kilmarnock and Brentford in UK, as well as Iranian clubs Tractor and Machine Sazi, before winding up in the US with Orange County SC and Los Angeles Force.

Harry Forrester announces retirement from playing football

Taking to Instagram, Harry Forrester announced his retirement and paid tribute to the clubs he’s played with in his career, as well as his late father.

“A perfect time to announce my retirement officially from professional football. 15 years and hundreds of games later it’s time for me to concentrate on my next chapter in life,” said Forrester.

“Since I was six years old, I had a dream to play, it’s all I ever wanted to do. Luckily, through hard work and sacrifice, I was able to do so. Being able to score goals in front of packed stadiums was something I had always dreamed about and to make that reality, it’s something I will never forget.

“I would like to thank my family for helping me achieve my goals. Sacrificing hours and hours on the motorway driving me up and down for the best part of 12 years. My dad, who sadly passed away this year, honestly without him I would never be here writing this today.

“I would like to thank the coaches and teammates who I have had the pleasure of learning from, Making some unforgettable memories with and friendships that I will always treasure.

”To @avfcofficial @watfordfcofficial @brentfordfc @drfcofficial @rangersfc @orangecountysoccer Thank you for allowing me to be part of your story. I will see you all again in the future.

“It’s time for me to concentrate on @prospect.soccer and giving the youth a chance to achieve their dreams.”

Once a Ranger, always a Ranger, and everyone at Ibrox will be wishing Harry Forrester all the best in his career.

But if only the attacking midfielder had squared the ball to Joe Dodoo v Celtic, then he might’ve been a hero for other reasons!
