Former Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty has opened up on his relatively short-lived Ibrox career and how he is thriving in England with Hull City in the English Championship.

Docherty was signed by the Ibrox side in 2018 from fellow Premiership side Hamilton as a talent that was definitely one for the future, however, he played a role in the starting XI in the second half of the 2017/2018 season.

The boyhood Rangers fan only made 19 appearances for Rangers in his short-lived spell at the club.

Greg Docherty discusses Rangers career and working with Steven Davis

Whilst at Rangers, Docherty played with a wide range of players, with Steven Davis being the one that helped his development the most.

“The only frustration was that I was not involved as much as I would have liked and it results in you not feeling as much of a part of the club as you would like to,” explained Docherty to Callum McFadden in an interview on World Football Index.

“Rangers was a great learning curve for me especially having joined the club from Hamilton.

“Steven is such a great guy. He is everything that you would want from an experienced pro. He has a great record at club and international level.

“He still had a great hunger and desire to learn even in his mid-thirties which sums up the professionalism he has.”

Working with players in the calibre of Davis has stood Docherty in good stead as he is now starring for Hull in the Championship. Although the side sits 19th in the league table, the new manager and former Gers ace Shota Arveladze will be aiming to push them as far up the table as possible.

Hopefully, the midfielder can live up to the potential he showed at Hamilton and the Gers and make it to the Premier League at some stage.

Meanwhile, Rangers announce that 150th-anniversary celebrations will take place before the Aberdeen clash.
