Former Rangers star and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly on the shortlist for the PSG job amid the rumours of Mauricio Pochettino leaving at the end of the season, if not before.

This comes after the European heavyweights surrendered a two-goal advantage to lose 3-2 on aggregate to Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16 – the trophy that matters to the PSG hierarchy.

Even if the Argentine wins the Ligue 1 title this season, it will be a massive surprise if he is still in the dugout for next season.

Arteta is doing well at Arsenal, with the side occupying the fourth spot at the moment, they could qualify for the Champions League for the first time in five years.

If the Spaniard does land the PSG job, then this could give Rangers a major transfer boost regarding the Dutch wonderkid Xavi Simons.

It was no secret that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is an admirer of the youngster and there were rumours of the Gers looking at securing his services on a loan deal until the end of the season in January.

Simons wasn’t getting regular game time and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, it looked like a move could occur, but Pochettino stepped up and began playing the midfielder more regularly which ended the pipedream.

With Arteta in charge, with him having played for the club and knowing what it’s like, this could be a potential avenue to explore further down the line.

Of course, it is a big if and requires a few things to change in a short space of time, but it would be an incredible boost to have, and the Rangers faithful can only hope it happens.

Meanwhile, Ryan Kent has sent a Euro warning following the club reaching the Europa League quarter-finals.
