Former Rangers star nets 11-minute hat-trick as stunning form continues

Former Rangers star Kyle Lafferty netted a rapid hat-trick for Kilmarnock against Dundee United on Wednesday as his stunning goalscoring form continues.

Lafferty was brought to Killie by Tommy Wright in February as the new manager searched for goals in a bid to avoid Premiership relegation.

It’s proven to be an inspired move as the 33-year-old international has found possibly the best form of his career.

Since netting a brace in his third appearance for Killie against Ross County early last month, he’s been unstoppable.

The Northern Ireland international had scored seven times in his last five appearances in all competitions prior to Wednesday night’s crucial Premiership clash against United and an 11-minute hat-trick in the first half took him to ten in six.

Lafferty put the hosts in front in the 32nd minute by heading an excellent Ross Millen cross into the top left corner from close range.

He doubled the advantage just three minutes later by firing home a low finish from the right of the penalty spot following a cutback from Millen and his hat-trick was completed in the 43rd minute when he sent Deniz Mehmet the wrong way from the spot after fellow former Rangers player Chris Burke has been fouled in the area.

The game finished 3-0 and it was a very significant win for Tommy Wright’s side, who moved out of the relegation playoff spot.

After the match, Lafferty said he’s keen to extend his contract at Rugby Park beyond the end of the season.

“I’m happy here – I’m playing football and I’m scoring goals, so obviously it ticks all the boxes and I’m close to my family as well,” he said [Sky Sports].

“I’d be more than delighted to stay here.”
