Former Rangers star and current Gers B team coach Kevin Thomson is being sounded out to replace Ibrox hero Barry Ferguson at ambitious Fife club Kelty Hearts, according to The Scottish Sun.

Ferguson was in charge at Kelty for three years and recently led them to promotion to SPFL League Two from the Lowland League via playoff wins over Brora Rangers and Brechin City.

However, he has since left his role and is expected to take over at Alloa Athletic ahead of next season [BBC Sport].

His departure leaves an attractive vacancy at New Central Park as Kelty begin their SPFL journey and The Scottish Sun claims that they are ‘targeting’ Thomson.

The former tough-tackling midfielder, who played for the Light Blues between 2007 and 2010, is currently in charge of the Rangers B team, having previously been responsible for an age group side.

He has also worked regularly as a co-commentator for RangersTV coverage of home Premiership matches this season.

The report claims that talks between Kelty and Thomson are imminent but that the former Ger may take some persuading to leave his current position at Auchenhowie.

There have been no B team matches over the second half of the season as most of the club’s Academy starlets headed out on loan, but a Gers team is set to play in the Lowland League next season.
