Former Rangers star Chris Burke will turn 37 in December but he continues to shine for Kilmarnock in the Premiership.
Burke spent seven years at Ibrox in the 2000s, winning a league title and a League Cup before leaving for Cardiff City over a decade ago.
He went on to represent Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest and Rotherham United before returning to Scottish football with Ross County in 2016.
When the winger’s one-season stint with the Staggies didn’t go to plan, it would have been easy for him to drift towards retirement.
Yet, he’s retained a hunger to play in the top-flight and he’s since racked up over 100 appearances for Kilmarnock.
Burke began this season in excellent form, scoring in his side’s opening three fixtures against Hibernian, Celtic and former club, County.
He’s started all 11 Killie league matches to date and has continued to play a big role after that initial burst in August.
The former Ger provided key assists in wins over Hamilton and St Mirren prior to the international break, before starring in a comeback against Livingston on Saturday afternoon.
After Scott Pittman had given Livi an early lead, Rangers loanee Robby McCrorie was unable to palm a well-struck Burke shot to safety in the 24th minute and Aaron Tshibola was on hand to level the scores.
Just 13 minutes later, the winger grabbed his fourth goal of the season and what would turn out to be the winner, as he coolly stroked an unstoppable penalty into the top right corner.
Greg Kiltie made sure of the points just prior to the hour mark, capitalising on a McCrorie mistake to make it 3-1.
Burke was then substituted in the 70th minute, with his work done for the weekend.
The veteran has now played a big part in three consecutive league victories and Alex Dyer’s side have moved up to fifth in the table.
