Former Rangers player Josh Windass has raved about Celtic and Scotland star Callum McGregor on Twitter, but he still got in a Parkhead-related dig.

Windass played for the Gers between 2016 and 2018 and split the fanbase during his time at Ibrox.

It’s now several years since he left Glasgow but he makes no secret of the affiliation he still feels with the club on social media and his Old Firm allegiances were made clear once again on Tuesday night.

The Sheffield Wednesday attacker tuned into Scotland’s crucial final Euro 2020 Group D match against Croatia at Hampden and raved about McGregor’s big first-half contribution.

The Celtic midfielder brought the scores level at 1-1 in the 42nd minute with Scotland’s first goal of the tournament, taking a strong first touch on the edge of the box before firing a right-footed finish into the bottom left corner.

Windass praised the goal and the 28-year-old’s general ability but didn’t miss the opportunity to land a dig about his choice of club.

“McGregor is a top player man,” he tweeted. “Wrong club but top player. What a finish.”

The tweet provoked plenty of responses from Gers supporters, and as is frequently the case with Windass, they were mixed.

Scotland went on to lose 3-1 and crash out of the Euros at the group stages after earning just one point from their three matches.

A current Rangers star has been impressing at the Championships and he earned rave reviews from a BBC commentary team earlier this week.
