Former Rangers player David Bates looks set to leave German outfit Hamburg in the summer, according to a report in Germany.
The Hamburger Morgenpost are claiming that despite holding a contract at the Volksparkstadion until 2022, the Bundesliga side are preparing to move Bates on this year.
The news comes after Bates spent the season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday where he remained until the season was cut short by the global pandemic.

“Bates now faces an uncertain future,” reads the report.
“He will return to HSV but his situation is open.
“His contract runs until 2022 but he is not in HSV’s plans going forward.
“In any case, the idea that Bates will come back to Hamburg with plenty of game practice and an increased market value has not worked at all.”
Bates has only made one appearance for Garry Monk’s Sheffield Wednesday side and now appears surplus to requirements back in Hamburg too.
The big defender joined Hamburg on a free transfer when his contract expired at Rangers at the beginning of last season.
The Ginger Ramos would go on to make 25 appearances for Hamburg last season but was powerless to resist as the former European Cup winners failed to get out of the country’s second tier.

Now 23, Bates earned his first caps for Scotland last season such was his early form after moving to the continent.
The big defender now has four caps for his country and will be looking to kickstart his career again should Hamburg take the decision to move the former Raith centre-back on.
