Former Rangers player DaMarcus Beasley responds to fan's Ibrox request on Twitter

Former Rangers player DaMarcus Beasley has responded to a fan query on social media by stating that he’d love to return to Ibrox one day.

When Beasley joined the Gers in 2007, he became the second American to play for the club after Claudio Reyna and many more have since followed, including Maurice Edu and Matt Polster.

The winger struggled with injuries at times across his three-year stint in Glasgow but he still turned out 43 times in all competitions, scoring six times and contributing 12 assists.

He played a big role in some high-profile games including a Champions League victory over Lyon and a Scottish Cup final triumph over Queen of the South, winning a total of six major honours during his time at the club.

Beasley left for Hannover in 2010. After a brief stay in Germany, he went on to represent Mexican club Puebla and Houston Dynamo in the MLS before eventually announcing his retirement from the professional game in 2019.

With 127 caps to his name, the 38-year-old is a legend of the sport in the US and is the only player from the nation to have played in four World Cups.

He was a well-travelled player but Ibrox still clearly holds special memories for him, as he responded to a message from a fan on Twitter over the weekend by stating that he’d love to return to the stadium as soon as possible.

“Hey Laura..will definitely be back to catch a match or two(when it’s safe),” he said. “Being back at Ibrox would be amazing!”

Rangers are on course to win just their second top-flight title since Beasley left the club and although Steven Gerrard’s side slipped up at Hamilton at the weekend, they are still well clear of second-placed Celtic.

The Gers have a 100% record at Ibrox so far this season and host Kilmarnock there on Saturday, although their opponents have received a major boost ahead of the game.
