Former Rangers player Alex Rae has hit back at Chris Sutton on Twitter after the ex-Celtic striker criticised Alfredo Morelos.
The two ex-players regularly work together as commentators or pundits on BT Sport‘s coverage of Scottish football, but the two have openly disagreed on social media in the fallout from Rangers’ 2-1 victory at Parkhead on Sunday.

Immediately after the game, Rae called Sutton a ‘Celtic cheerleader’ in a stinging putdown after the latter had criticised Steven Gerrard’s celebrations at the full-time whistle.
Not content with complaining about the Rangers manager, the former Hoops striker has since taken a pop at Morelos for the action he made following his red card in the game, referring to it as a ‘violent gesture’ and saying that people should ‘stop making excuses’ for him.
Rae was having absolutely none of it, though, and rightly so, saying Sutton’s comments were just the latest in a social media meltdown from rival fans.
This time, Sutton opted to respond, tweeting back: ‘I have to say I’m surprised you’re endorsing violent gestures inside football stadiums’, only for Rae to then accuse him of having an ‘agenda.’
It’s good to see former Rangers players sticking up for the club whether that be in the mainstream or on social media, as people like Sutton have gone largely unchallenged for far too long.
The club are back performing on the pitch now and Gers-connected pundits such as Kris Boyd and Rae have a leg to stand on when it comes to debates between the big two.
Let’s hope that continues long into 2020.
